Residence in Palaio Psychiko

The two-story house was completely renovated in order to fulfill the needs of a modern five-member family and its guests. Aiming to achieve a versatile and flexible living space, the ground floor was divided into two main functional units: The “formal” living room including the dining room area and the “informal” family living room with the kitchen. The two main spatial units can open-up to each other or become separated through the partitioning provided by two large sliding doors. In the same scope, the basement serves as a multi-functional space for the family’s entertainment and everyday needs and so does the communal living room in the first floor, around which the four bedrooms are developed. The central element of the interior space and the experience of the house itself, is the central staircase, which dominates in the entrance hall and is architecturally conceived as a double wooden spiral ribbon. The residence’s generous openings and overall layout enhance both visual contact and functional continuity among the different areas of the house and the outdoor spaces.
